The laboratory belongs in the sector of didactics of science and its members deliver the courses of sector. In the Sector, undergraduate students are compelled to collect 21 instructive units, which are equivalent to 26 E.C.T.S.

  • 15 instructive unitswhich are equivalent to 20 E.C.T.S. by selecting 5 compulsory courses during the 4 first semesters of their study.
  • 6 instructive units which are equivalent to 6 E.C.T.S. by selecting 2 courses from the list of Optional Courses.

At the same time, Sector offers courses of Research, from which the students can select, depending on their planning, from 1 to 2 courses (3 I.U.  to 6 I.U. which are equivalent from 4 E.C.T.S. to 8 E.C.T.S. ). The titles and the content of courses of Research will be fixed in the beginning of each instructive year.

Finally, Sector has the responsibility of second phase of Practical Exercises of Educational Planning that concerns in the Mathematics, the Physics and the New Technologies (total 9 I.U.)

This course is an introduction to the main ideas and methods of the Didactics of Mathematics. The main characteristics of the intellectual development are analysed and the structure of human reasoning is linked with the mathematical theories. The mathematical content of the course is focussed on Number Theory, Logic and Combinatorics.

Title: Mathematics in the First School Age

Presentation and analysis of problems of provided mathematic education globally and their cross-correlation with the mathematics education in the first school age, presentation and discussion of opinions that are formulated in the space of Didactics of Mathematics for the learning and teaching of this particular course, analysis of way of construction of mathematic significances with which deal the students at their first school education and proposals for their teaching.

Title: Planning, Development and Management of Educational Material for Sciences

It includes study of various categories of educational material that is used in the teaching of sciences with emphasis in the planning principles and their development. Special mention is made also in the management of this material in the instructive practice as well as in the evaluation of quality and his appropriateness for various ages of students. Undergraduate students are called to draw and to develop their own educational material or they propose the instructive exploitation of some already existing material, justifying their choice and adapting it in the aims and objectives of their proposed use.

Title: ICT applications and products development for mathematics and mathematics education

In this cource students study basic media (text, image, audio, video, animation, etc) as components of multimedia applications. Students also learn how to design and develop simple multimedia ICT educational applications using programming and authoring environments. In addition the course concerns the familiarization of students with the production of digital learning content for the internet and the design of learning activities that exploit digital assets and resources in education. Furthermore students learn about well known and widelly accepted ICT applications (inlcuding games) for mathematics education. Finally, in the course students get a first contact to the research work body about ICT applications in learning and education. The main goal of the course is for the students to develop the competences: a) of design and development of simple ICT applications and prototypes, b) of the assement of ICT applications and, c) of the integration of ICT in the educational practice for learning enhancement.

Title: Applied ICT Didactics

The cource is included in   Phase B’ (“design and development of subject didactics”) of the departments practice program. The main goal of the course is the composition of the knowledge and abilities that students developed in previous years-courses in a functional and efficient system that they are going to test in practice. More specific, students are designing learning activities using ICT that they implement in local kindergartens, schools and other educational institutes. In this manner students develop the ability to design engaging learning activities using ICT for real conditions according to the modern didactical and pedagogical views.

Main expectetions for students include:

  • the ability to apply ICT based learning design principles for the production of learning activities plans of several forms according to the modern didactics for predefined learning outcomes
  • development of ICT based learning designs implementation in real conditions competence
  • critical review ability of learning design implementation for the evaluation, extension and improvment of them
  • development of digital learning environment performance assessment competence

Main aim of course is students to comprehend the significances “significance” and “representation”, as well as their processes of development. Emphasis is given in the preschool age and is discussed the term “developmentally suitable practices” concerning the growth of activities from the Natural Sciences.

The aim of the course is to sensitise students to the application of the Information and Communication Technologies in teaching and learning through the design, development and evaluation of appropriate activities relating to the curriculum for preschool education. In the context of the course, students learn how to exploit ICT in their educational practice for learning enhancement and how to design and develop simple ICT educational applications using programming and educational software environments. Also, students learn about well known and widely accepted ICT software applications for preschool education.

Title: Topics in Didactics of Mathematics

In this course, the main lines of research in the didactics of mathematics are presented, along with the main results. Within this course, the students prepare and present papers that link the general lines of research with the preschool age and the flexible forms of teaching.

Title: Teaching Activities with Geometrical Notions

In this course, teaching activities are presented and analysed, focussing on the core geometrical notions linked with space perception and measurement, as well as with the construction of planar and solid shapes. The applications of the teaching activities in the school class are in detail presented and discussed.

Objectives of course: Planning and analysis of instructive activities that is reported in basic geometric significances related to perception of space, its measurement, manufacture of levels and solids, as well as the applications of these in the school order.

Title: Communication in Mathematics Education

In this course, communication models that describe mathematical education are presented, which may reveal qualitative ‘deficiencies’ and may help obtaining substantially improved results. The communicational theories of Shannon and Weaver are analysed and are linked with the mathematical processes.

Title: Flexible and Distance Learning Education

The aim of the course is the presentation of the concepts of flexible learning, open education, blended learning and distance education as well as the possibility of their implementation and support with new technologies.

The course aims to introduce students to the structure and operation of computer systems and general purpose applications (word processing software, spreadsheet software and software for managing messages and files over the Internet) in order to be able to use them both in monitoring other courses and for personal use. This course is proposed for students (who have not already acquired knowledge) for the first semester of their studies.

This course aims to make students able to use general purpose basic applications (presentation software (Powerpoint), database management systems (Access), image and video processing tools, search engines and Internet tools) both in the context of other courses and for personal use. This course is proposed for students (who have not already acquired knowledge) for the first year of their studies. Title: Design and Development of Educational Internet Applications and Services

The course aims to familiarize students with educational applications of  internet in order to consider them in their educational design toolbox. The applications include simple communication services (e.g. forum, chat, audio-videoconference  etc), web 2.0 services (e.g. wiki, blog, youtube, ning etc), Learning Managment Systems (e.g. e-class, moodle, webct etc) and real time interaction 3D virtual environments and online games. Students get familiarized with internet services, learn and try educational applications and designs, develop learning content according to international standards (e.g SCORM etc) and finally study how to exploit all the previous in educational design.

In this course students learn about research for the specific field of ICT in learning and education in general.  Students study how the research methods may be adapted for the field, reflect on already published research reports cases, get information about modern and current research questions and directions as well as about how to get access and use the several media in which the researches are published. Students apply their new knowledge in a ICT in education pilot-research they plan and implement during the cource.
